Is the Christian doctrine of resurrection incompatible with the belief in reincarnation? It has often been assumed that resurrection presupposes that we live only once on earth and death is the end of this life. Mainline Christianity has maintained that there is a real difference between life and death, but thanks to Christ’s victory over death, death will not claim its final hold over us. We are responsible for how we have lived our one life on earth, and there will be no second chance. God has created this world and will create “a new heaven and a new earth” where our resurrection bodies will live. There is no immediate continuation between the life in the present body and the resurrected life – except for the Christ quality, the faith. Through faith we can participate in the new life.
